It's not easy being a president

It's not easy being a president.
Rarely do you get any credit. No. Only dissent.
And that's true. Always. No matter what you've achieved.
I've fought hard for you. I've fought against sexual immorality, against the invasion of refugees, and I've even spent billions strengthening our army against terrorists.
But all I get in return are attacks, on social media of all places. Does that seem proportionate? Is that reasonable?
In a society there's always a scapegoat. Is that what you want me to be? Fine. If that makes you content, then that's not a problem with me.
I'll be your scapegoat.
I only ask that you remain fair. But in your biased view, it seems like I haven't achieved much. Oh, how wrong that is.
Would you believe me if I told you that this is the era of minimal regression?
Note, I say 'minimal regression' not out of embarrassment but out of pride that it is minor and not on a catastrophic scale. Where is the recession? Yes, it's not yet here. Isn't that something to be grateful for?
You know, progress isn't always possible. Especially in these current times. What do you expect from me with this workforce, with this parliament, with this climate?
But look at what I've built. The world's largest coal-fuelled power plant. Not just that, but our country's second largest mosque too.
I know you might be sceptical, but believe me, it's sometimes harder to push back than it is to push forward.
Is a dam created for any purpose other than to stop the flow of water? Do we complain when it does its job and nothing more?
We might not even be aware of the dam's existence, but that doesn't diminish its importance.
So, be patient with me.
Do you think Rome was built in a day? No, it was built in tens or maybe even hundreds of years.
And I promise you this, I'm doing all candidates and politicians a favour by staying in this job. Will I do it forever? Of course not. Who does?
But when the mechanic is doing good work, does anyone ask him to step down? Does anyone ask for him to be replaced by a man who's never done the job before? Imagine if he's forced out. Imagine what motorists would do then.
Let me say one more thing that you might not realise. Critics are doing what they can to silence me. Yes. And what do they talk about to occupy the vacuum they've created as a consequence?
They fixate on personal insults, on things beyond my control, like my supposed wealth, my homes. But let me ask you this - how can I work in anything less? How can I serve you in something that's excessively humble?
If I wanted to be rich, to have an easy life, believe me, I wouldn't be here talking to you as your president right now.
My love for this country is enormous, it's unrequited, it's misunderstood. Misunderstood just like I am.
You can criticise me, you can talk in hyperbole, you can dream in hypotheticals.
But one thing you can't do is understand how difficult it is being a president.
